"Jonas?" I looked up and it was Lance and the others.
"Where in the hell have you been?" Justin demanded. "We've been looking everywhere for you."

"Aren't you going to say something?" Chris asked and, again, I didn't reply. They looked at each other and then back at me.
"Jonas?" Lance said. He sighed. "Come on. Your mother is worried sick."
"Wait," I said. They looked at me for a moment. "What happened last night?"
"You tell us," Chris replied. "We looked for you and it was like you vanished. We couldn't find you anywhere."
"Did you try the parking lot?" I muttered.
"What?" Joey said.
"Nothing," I said. "I wish I could remember, but I can't."
"You don't know where you were last night?" Chris asked, looking at me like I was .

"I don't," I said. "I wish I did."
"Where were you this morning?" Lance asked.
I looked at him for a moment. "School parking lot."
"The school parking lot?" Chris said. "You are lucky the cops didn't pick you up."
"I suppose," I said. They took me back to my house in Chris" car and my mother went ballistic. "Mom, I'm fine," I assured her. "Go to work."

"Yes," I promised. "Go."

When she was gone, the five of us sat in the family room.
"God, I wish I could remember something," I said.
"Do you remember what happened after you talked to Christy?" Lance asked. "Did she give you something?"
I thought for a moment. "Just a glass of punch," I said. "Then she went to the bathroom and never saw her again until . . . until this morning." My eyes widened and I looked at them. "You don't think we . . .?" They looked at each other. I looked at Joey. "Would she go that far?"
